Normally I pay little mind to beauty pageants or their contestants (yes I know they are supposed to be examples of beauty but they seldom seem it to me).
In the past couple of years, however, Miss England has had at least two 'real' women in the competition.
One is a (shock horror) size 16 girl - my lord, she's eaten more than celery! A fine antidote to the normal fashion stick-insects.
The other is a lance corporal in the army! She appears to have her head screwed on and handles being called Combat Barbie with commendable aplomb . I reckon the fact that she has a commendation for bravery during her tour in Iraq probably helps in that regard .

The video interviews are well worth a watch.
