Yup, I am on a philosophical bent again

Just cause I feel this is something I need to think about at the moment

If you want something deep in your heart you can accomplish it, even if it seems impossible, even if the people around you tell you to your face that it’s impossible. Just by having the goal, you’re already a winner and well on your way up the inner mountain

---Chuck Norris

Something to think about

Meek young men grow up in libraries, believing it their duty to accept the views, which Cicero, which Locke, which Bacon, have given, forgetful that Cicero, Locke, and Bacon were only young men in libraries, when they wrote those books.

--- Ralph Waldo Emerson,

The Chuck Norris quote brings to my mind the quote "Necessity is the mother of invention." If you want it, you'll find a way.

I like the other quote because it gives perspective. Our whole society is built on the backs of those that built it on the backs of others.

Thus, always, sayeth the guy who actually made it to the top of his mountain.

Nobody is interested hearing a quote from one of the kajillion of folk who slid down into the gorge of failure and never made it back up.

Sorry to be so pessimistic. I just believe there are plenty of people who have tried their hearts out to no avail.

I once had a long discussion about (stick with me, there's a point) Star Trek....How did they get to that level. People on that show are SO much smarter at SUCH a younger age. Now, yes, it is fiction, but same concept, as we get more advanced, there is MUCH more to learn, but our kids continue to be smarter. It seems like they are learning MORE....but they aren't, they are just starting with more base material. They aren't learning more volume, they are learning more advanced material from a more advanced starting point.

Bottom line is that someone has to lay the groundwork for everything - even if you fail....you are the example for the others that come after you.

Life is too short, and the time we waste in yawning never can be regained

Life is too short to drink cheap beer

Enjoy yourself. It's later than you think. ~Chinese Proverb

As you grow older, you'll find the only things you regret are the things you didn't do. ~Zachary Scott

Men for the sake of getting a living forget to live. ~Margaret Fuller

You live longer once you realize that any time spent being unhappy is wasted. ~Ruth E. Renkl

How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives. ~Annie Dillard,

Life's Too Short to sit staring at a computer screen...

Carl Jung

Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves. - Carl Jung

We cannot change anything unless we accept it. Condemnation does not liberate, it oppresses. -Carl Jung

A little learning is a dangerous thing;
drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring:
there shallow draughts intoxicate the brain,
and drinking largely sobers us again.Alexander Pope, An essay on Criticism
English poet & satirist (1688 - 1744)

And Henry VIII, a big hairy king, went up to the Pope and said, "Mr. Pope! I'm gonna marry my first wife, then I'm gonna divorce her. Now, I know what you're gonna say, but stick with me. My story gets better. Second wife, I'm gonna kill her! Cut her head off. Ah, not expecting that, are we? Third wife gonna shoot her. Fourth wife, put her in a bag. Fifth wife, into outer space. Sixth wife, on a rotissamat. Seventh wife, made out of jam..." and the Pope is saying, "You crazy bugger! You can't do all this, what are you a Mormon? It's illegal. What have you been reading? The gospel according to St. Bastard?"

-- Eddie Izzard

Like other things I've read by Emerson that quote really gives the impression that he's a self-important wind bag.

Pax,

If you are sitting thinking deep thoughts you have too much time on your hands! Go help your wife with the housework, play with the kids, do something satisfying like baking bread or a cake.
All this stuff about never giving up is rubbish, if you've tried it and found it's not for you, give it up and find something else. What a waste of time trying to do something that doesn't suit, fit or is for you. Life's too short, fill it with people and things you love and enjoy. All this macho stuff about 'winners', hell if you wake up in the morning still breathing you're a winner! :)
Go down the pub or a nice restaurant with family or good friends, now that's living! Find your joie de vivre and don't fret.

There's nothing in life that a nice cup of tea and piece of cake can't sort out.

True, that is assuming there was anything actually wrong, and there isn't, besides this darn head cold.

I just liked the Jung Quotes.

And truth be known, I could cut out the cake and just go with the Tea and I'd be fine.... except for this darn head cold that is. :D

A cup of black tea with whisky will sort that cold out.

Excerpt of the Faith Mind Sutra from the book "Finding the Still Point" by John Daido Loori

The Great Way is not difficult;
It only avoids picking and choosing.
When love and hate are both absent,
everything becomes clear and undisguised.
Make the smallest distinction, however,
and heaven and earth are set
infinitely apart.
If you wish to see the truth,
then hold no opinions for or against
anything.
To set up what you like against what
you dislike
Is the disease of the mind.
When the deep meaning of things is not
understood
the mind's essential peace is disturbed to
no avail.
The Way is perfect like vast space
where nothing is lacking and nothing
is in excess.
Indeed, it is due to our choosing to accept
or reject
that we do not see the true nature of things.
Live neither in the entanglements of
outer things,
nor in inner feelings of emptiness.
Be serene in the oneness of things
and such erroneous views will disappear
by themselves.
To deny the reality of things
Is to miss their reality
The more you talk and think about it,
the further astray you wander from
the truth.
Stop talking and thinking,
and there is nothing you will not be
able to know.

The Faith Mind Sutra
