Help with survey project

I am conducting a survey project on self-defense and need input from an instructor level. I need what the defintion of the term "self-defense" is from an instructor level of Martial Arts . Thanks for any help.

I also understand that there may be some variances in the definition itself as it is viewed by different individuals.
