Hello all. New to the board and forums.

Was hoping someone could point me down the right path.

I'm looking into picking a MA. I am in my late 30's and completely new to it. Looking to keep fit (or at least get fit) and a practical/real world style. From what I see going through the internet, it seems that Krav Maga, BJJ and the Russian styles seem to fit. Any thoughts?

I've noticed TONS of associations (especially with the Gracie BJJ), so would appreciate if you could expand on a particular style with which association to follow. I guess it would help here if I mentioned I'm from the Northern NJ region.

Thank you for the help.

Welcome to MT! As for your questions, I gave my reply in your other post. :)

Greetings and Welcome to MT...

Welcome and happy posting as far as your question what do you want? Find something that can grab your attention and stay with it long enough to fully understand the Art you have choosen.

From the northern Jersey area I'd imagine that there are plenty of options to choose from. Best of luck in your search because, ultimately, its how you mesh with the particular instructor you choose.

I agree with Terry. Welcome to MT, BTW.

Hey nice to meet you. I would go to the marital arts schools themselves and check out thee work-outs they do. Not all of them are going to have good workouts, but some really will. I noticed Ultimate Dragon Shorin Ryu Karate, in Fairview NJ. I dont know if thats near you?

Welcome to MT :wavey:
The advice given by others really sums it up when looking for a place to learn...

I also agree with this sentiment. I would visit the schools in question and get a feel for the instructors and see if you think they offer what might suit your needs, as everyone's needs are different.
