Hey Chris. Most muay thai gyms don't use a ranking system and then some do. I know my old gym and the instructor that certified me as an instructor use the ranking system of krabi krabong, which uses sashes. This was used as a tool to show that a student is advancing and progressing to another level and there are requirements for each sash along with a test. Typically though, you don't see much in the form of an actual rank structure in most gyms. I know most gyms in Thailand only use a ranking system for certifying an instructor, otherwise you don't see it much.
