Free CD's!

Curious about Linux, Ubuntu will mail you free cd's of their full distribution. This is a complete operating system, with Microsoft Office compatible OpenOffice suite, and lots of other top quality software. They will even pay the postage on it for you.

Linux is moving to the mainstream, with no licencing costs, open source philosophy, and easy to use distrobutions like this it's only a matter of time. Gov't agencies world wide are moving to Linux, the majority of web servers run on Linux, and the desktop market is progressing quickly.

They send you 2 cd's, an installation cd, and a "Live" cd, it runs completely off the cd and writes nothing to the harddrive, all you do is stick it in and reboot.

Tux lives....

Anyone who is interested could also give Knoppix a try. Similar system, boots directly off a CD-ROM drive and has comparable software.

Yup, but got to download and burn it yourself...

Ubuntu tends to be more "Newbie Friendly" and desktop orientated

Knoppix is primarily a live cd, with installation not a apparent feature. It has more disk utilities and makes a great rescue disk though.
