mook jong man
Senior Master
This is a sequence we often like to perform on the focus mitts , it mostly works the pivoting aspect of Wing Chun striking.
Equipment needed. Two focus mitts and a willing partner.
The pad holder stands directly in front of his partner with the pads held out at head height at either side of his body.
The face of the pads should be angled in at 45 degrees so that they are facing the striker.
From the correct stance and guard facing square on the Wing chun man pivots to the left and punches the pad on his left with his right hand , he then pivots back to the right and punches the right pad with his left hand .
After the left hand completes it's strike it returns to the Wu sau position , as the striker pivots back to the left he executes the Chum Kiu uppercut with his right hand which should now be in line with the pad holders centreline.
After the uppercut , pivot back to square on position with guard up ready to start the sequence again.
For the uppercut , the pad holder will hold his right hand pad at head height on the centreline with the face of the pad pointing down.
Make sure that both arms are trained equally and also try mixing up the sequence a bit once the strikes are executed smoothly and correctly.
It is important that upper and lower body stay locked in at the waist and the strikes are correctly synchronised with the pivot.
