Dolphin rescues stranded whales

Some things give you a sense of hope for all of 'us' (by which I mean sentient or near-sentient species).

Those who still decry the intelligence of dolphins should add this heart-warming story to those where dolphins have attacked humans in what has been theorised as 'revenge' for the deaths of mates, children or fellows in the nets of 'factory' fishing boats.

Cetaceans have the largest brain per body mass of any mammal on the planet... next to the elephant. Why do we assign (high) intelligence to only humans when it's clear that these animals communicate and live in many case structured and ordered lives.
That was a great story to read. Was a bit sad to think the wildlife conservation officer was about giving up and going to get his gun before Moko showed up.
It's still unclear why whales beach themselves like they do. It's a death sentence unless they get help.
This was a good read in that it had a happy ending and gives us hope that people will continue want to protect them.

The 'beaching' of whales is a strange one, isn't it Caver?

I've heard a few tenuous theories on it, the most convincing of which is that the poor souls have either been driven mad by the ocean-wide clamour of ships propellors, have their navigation confused by same or have simply been deafened by it.
