I started taking karate in college (with no prior experience) and completly fell in love with it. I think it will depend a lot on the teacher. Some teachers are excellent whereas others aren't and some you may not just get along with their teaching style. I'd try to find out who the instructor is and maybe try to watch one of the classes like the semester before if you can. Hope that helps a bit.
