How many of you fellow TKD'ers have ever really used the cut kick in action, I mean outside the dojang and was it in a tournament or in actual stituation in life?
Terry

Can you elaborate more on this cut kick? Any pictures on websites I can look at? I have never heard of a cut kick but maybe have been told it by another name.

A cut kick is a kick that you use to knock your opponet roudhouse or front kick down before the can actually use it on you and then counter with usaully a back leg roundhouse.

excuse my ignorance. what is a cut kick?
oh wait, is it what's also known as "x-kick"? bringing your right foot, for example, to your left shoulder with your leg straight in a fashion similar to the uprising kick, or the "high kick"?

no i have never used it
in mantis you are either out of that range so you dont need it, or you are too close for him to kick a front kick (there's more to it) but no, i have never used it

Ok, Mr. Mantis! :)

Terminology here, Yes, if we're talking about the first 2 pictures on that search then yes I've practiced that before. Although never used in tournaments or for real life situation but it is definatley a strong kick.

Well you know, if it has to be me or the other guy, guess what? It has to be them. I prefer to have a few things in the tool box that not every Joe Smith has on the street. :) I knew we probaby were talking about the same thing, it comes down to that terminology thing.

that sir really bothers me
the naming of techniques are really different between people. there should be a way to standarize all of this. I think they all should be taught in their original language since i always like authentic stuff.

I never heard of a cut kick either. Well, we really aren't allowed to purposely kick another's leg. It looks like it's a hook kick that goes down instead of across horizontally like it normally does. ?? TW

I do know what a cut kick is and I have used it (on accident) in sparring. I felt bad :( I left a welt on my sparring partners leg :( They are not allowed in TKD, but very effective.

I agree. When it happens, it will only be within a specific organization.

I'm not familiar with the cut kick term, but if it's the kick I think, I don't see how it could be allowed in any WTF sanctioned tournament. Intentional leg to leg contact is a no-no.

When I was a colored belt, I did that while sparring with my Sabumnim. He told me if I tried to break his leg again, he would be more than happy to break mine first. Maybe I'm misunderstanding your term. If so, please clarify.

Cut kick is used to block the opponet in coming kick,in a tournament you are not trying to take out a knee, just redirecting the kick away from you. I hope this clearify things a little. I'm going to take a video along with the tornado kick tonight and send them to Bob to download for me and then we can all see what I'm talking about.
Thanks
Terry

Cool. Thanks, Terry.

I would think that if you use the cut kick to block an incoming kick, the cut kick would have to be going hard and fast and it would hurt if not hitting on the shin guard. I want to ask our instructor about that kick as it has never been mentioned, probably for that reason. TW
