Boxing for Self-Defense

Boxing training is solid, realistic and great for fitness and overall strength. It can also used as a platform for defending yourself if needs be. Boxing gyms are my favorite environments to train in and over the years I've picked up plenty of skills and made lots of friends. There are definite self-defense applications too, but it's not often we see boxing used as a platform for doing so... more often than not it's the oriental martial arts that get the main coverage - the following book by Wim Demeere looks interesting. Has anyone here read it, and if so what are you thoughts?

The subject of boxing comes up often in FMA circles. Many GMs of 20th century were accomplished boxers. My GM was a boxer and judoist, before his dive into Eskrima (Doce pares). He infused boxing as well as combat judo into his art which eventually became the World Eskrido Federation. Mauy Thai, Bando, Savate, Kickboxing and MMA all incorporate some form of boxing. Haha, If you just use the slip parry and footwork alone you could probably get out of most street situations.😁

Slip/parry/simultaneous strike is one of my favorite things. It's something I can pull off pretty consistently in sparring. Takes practice to train yourself to parry in the opposite direction your body turns to power the strike, after you get that down it's such a good way to counterstrike without much effort needed. Added benefit is the other guy will often step right into your counterpunch
