The top image is SoC, no processing at all. The morning sky added a bluish cast to the snow.

The bottom image is processed in black and white.

Which do you all prefer? Blue Monday or Black and White Monday? :D

The simple black and white is more sober and thoughtful somehow. The blue picture gives a greater sense of the cold. I generally prefer blue tones, but it really depends on what you wanted to express.

First of all, beautiful shot Carol! I prefer the blue. As GB said, it gives a greater sense of the cold. I also like the "Blue Monday" play. The B&W seems a little more ominous somehow.

I like the blue...

I too think that both shots have merit. The unprocessed one definitely gives a deeper feel of the chill, as others have said, also being the more 'mood' inducing of the two. The processed shot brings out more of the textures and composition, making the trees rather than the snow the element that grabs the attention.

The colour says it all. The B&W reminds me of those cold, damp days of winter when there hasn't been much sun. The photo above it me to mind of brisker brighter days. Both photos reflect moods I feel in winter.

I, too, like both but side-by-side (or bottom-to-top, as it were) I like the blue. :)

Great picture from a scenery point of view, and the blue complements that the most.

Blue, the B&W seems to be missing something, it is somehow incomplete and so it does not convey the emotion that the untouched photo does. The blue tint coming from the sky and snow lends a solemness, silence and depth to this picture. I can almost feel the land resting, waiting.
