Blocking low kicks

first of all hello again from me.i was banned few weeks because i didnt put my full name when i was registering.sorry.

well i know,atleast thats how i was trained, that when someone wants to kick me in my waist area i block it with my hand with that outer part of the hand,that hard bone part if you get me.what should i do when someone is kicking me low,in leg area,especially under the knee,should i take the kick in that more meaty part of the leg or should i face my bone to attackers leg(that sounds painful) ?
 
Turn your leg away from the kick, so that you take it in the crease on the posterior part of your leg. The other way is to raise your leg and reduce the power absorbtion.
 
First off just like to say awelcome and happy posting, the other thing is to condition your shin so they will be able to absrb the kick while lifting the leg.
 
Turning the knee out to block a low kick (Muy-Thai style) is very effective and very painful for the kicker but also very painful for the receiver and potentially dangerous if you don't spend some serious time in doing bone conditioning (assuming they are kicking with t heir shin, Mut Thai style as well...if they are kicking with the instep then it will hurt them probably a lot more than you).
 
thank you. so actually when doing hand block, opponents leg should hit that bony,outer part of the hand and when he is doing low kick he should kick your shin,not the tibia right?
 
you need to develop 'sensetivity' in your legs. basically you need to match your opponent's footwork to avoid the kicks. sometimes those kicks are not avoidable especially if you are engaged at the top. What you have to do is lift up your leg. if the range is close (which should be if you're getting a low kick) bring your knee up to counter-attack.

I would block with the palm...I wouldn't want to block a kick with any of the bones in the hand

and when he is doing low kick he should kick your shin,not the tibia right?

Or he could kick air..depends on if you want to counter by moving in off his kick or just get back and miss the kick. We do some drills where we shin block a low shin kick and that sets up counter attacks, but they are painful drills.
 
well yeah blocking with the bone of the hand is pretty painful but effective too. but it looks to me that blocking with the palm can be pretty dangerous if the kick is strong. it would probably be the best if we could block with that meaty part of the forearm,under the bone but its pretty impossible.
 
Blocking a kick...........first and foremost, I don't want to be at the end of the "power range" of the kick. I'm sure that other's have witnessed either Pride or UFC fights where someones forearm was broken when trying to block a roundhouse. I know I've seen it happen at least twice on TV. That being said, the majority of folks are not as conditioned as those fighters, so it would not be prudent to try and absorb that power. There are two things that one can and must do when defending against a kick. One - step into the kick (on an angle). This will eliminate a vast majority of the power and also places the defenders body in a much less receptive position if the hand/forearm check is weak or missed. But let us not forget an importnat element and that is timing. Some are blessed with great hand and eye coordination and timing, but for most of us, it's something that should/must be practiced for it then becomes a conditioned reflex of sorts. Number two - just get the heck out of the way........

Now here is where there is a bone to pick on this subject. In my opinion, the sport aspect does a dis-service here. Because of wearing the pads and chest protector when sparring, folks become conditioned to absorbing the blows. This sets folks up for a nasty dose of harmful reality if they attempt to have the same mindset in a real self defense setting.
 
thanks alot for the answers. thats why the trainer tells us not to keep the blocking near our body and that with should stop it before it comes too close to our body.
