Joseph Benavidez needed a decisive win to earn a place in the WEC bantamweight title discussion, and that's exactly what he did tonight at WEC 45. Benavidez knocked out Rani Yahya in 1:35 of the first round.
Benavidez was aggressive early, throwing combos at Yahya from the bell. Then, Benavidez clipped Yahya with an overhand right, finishing off the fight with quick ground and pound.
After the bout, Benavidez said it was important to stand up with Yahya, a submission specialist. He also said he is ready to fight anyone, including former champion Miguel Torres.
"I'm here to fight the best guys in the world, and that includes Miguel Torres," Benavidez said after the fight.
