Be on your guard during the heat wave

After a cooler-than-normal August, we've finally been blessed with a heat wave that's taken us over the 100 degree F mark.

My neighborhood is an older, lower middle class one in which not a lot of people have air conditioning. I've noticed a lot of shorter tempers this week, people around here are becoming edgy and more confrontational than normal. IMO this takes things to a yellow alert status until it cools down. It's a good time to know SD.

Has anybody else noticed the trend toward greater violence during heat waves?

Oh, sure! Do you remember Spike Lee's movie "Do the Right Thing?" He set that story during a heat wave for a reason. I've also been told that in psych hospitals they set the thermostat really low under the same rationale.

I'd be interested to hear from the LEOs on this too.
