Dec. 1 (Bloomberg) -- “I just wrote my first reference for a gun permit,” said a friend, who told me of swearing to the good character of a Goldman Sachs Group Inc. banker who applied to the local police for a permit to buy a pistol. The banker had told this friend of mine that senior Goldman people have loaded up on firearms and are now equipped to defend themselves if there is a populist uprising against the bank.

Hahahahahahaha! It's hard for cops to get conceal carry permits in New York, however, if you cause the housing crisis, crash the economy, and steal trillions, you're good to go!

That's a bit of hyperbole on my part, however, it is incredibly hard for people to get carry permits in NY. Even if you have experience like LE or military.

In Belgium, LEOs aren't allowed to carry their weapon off-duty.
They could carry a personal weapon if they have a CCW, which is extremely difficult, if not flat out impossible to come by.

They should be scared, but their real focus should be on not screwing up again (or screwing over more people.)

If they took an ethics course or two, they might not have to worry about packing.

Under 218 officers can carry nation wide, it's a complicated issue to explain, but in a nutshell HR 218 exempts LEO's from State and Local ordinances against the carry of concealed weapons. However it is an "affirmative defense" against said laws. Which means that a cop can be arrested but HR 218 is his defense. This came up in an officer involved shooting at Sturgis a few years ago. What it boils down to is that while I would let an out of state cop go on his way if I found out he was armed, if he got involved in a shooting he will probably be charged and the charges dropped by the court if he was within the HR218 guidelines.

There are state by state restrictions on ammo type allowed, carry on school grounds, casinos, parks etc.

Oddly enough..its a federal law but officers are prohibited from carrying on federal property. Go figure.

My Dad was a banker for 20+ years, after a thwarted career as a philosophy prof. From time to time he'd stand in teaching a business ethics class, required for a local MBA program. He said most of the students slept through it. Figures.

Even under normal circumstances, I don't blame bankers for wanting a CCW. I've heard of cases where they were kindnapped an killed for what the thugs thought was an easy way to get milions.

And if there is a real crash, like the Depression, after all this bailout and trillions of debt, the bankers, and CONGRESS, had better fort up cause alot of people with pitchforks will be coming. And I won't bame the citizens at all.
