An attorney who specializes in drunken-driving offenses is suing a Florida strip club, claiming it got him so drunk he spent almost $19,000 on his credit card, Courthousenews.com reports.
Mark S. Gold reportedly is suing the Gold Rush strip club in Miami-Dade County Court, saying he became "temporarily unconscious" during a drunken night at the club in November 2010 and racked up $18,930 in charges.

Sounds to me more like "I'll sue them and get out of paying my tab"

Exactly! IMO, anyone who spends that much on booze needs their head checked out. On one hand, the bar should have shut him off. Obviously this guy was in no shape to drive, yet they keep the drinks coming. On the other hand, it goes to show the guy has zero control over what he does. If he was that drunk and out of it, he's lucky he didn't lose more than 19k. He could have found himself waking up, laying naked on the side of the road, clothes gone, car gone, and nobody around, all the while wondering..."What the **** happened?" LOL!

um I bet he didn't spend more then a hundred or so on drinking some top end alcohol..
he may has spent 18,000 on champagne bottles at $250.00 a pop, but he wasn't drinking them....

Well, according to the article, he claims he was drunk, so he was drinking something. Was he entertaining 'clients', friends, etc., buying overpriced drinks for the girls? Probably, but I dont know...I wasnt there. In any case, the guy is an idiot, IMO, should admit his **** up and pay his tab. :D

I am sure he made some life long friends on stage that night

"HEY BIG SPENDER"

But unless they put a funnel down his throat....

(then again, it's a strip club....fair game...)

I bounced in a strip club. He did not spend that drinking. Lap dances, private rooms if they have them there, stuff like that. I can see someone spending that much, I have seen some that have spent more.

I remember we had one of these richie riches at the club and he would give each bouncer a $100 when he would come in (loved that guy). Spent about 10-15k each time he came in, which was a couple times a month. Oh and that 10-15k went mostly to one dancer.

WOW!!!!!!!!! That is one hell of a payday!

If this guy was that smashed the club should have cut him off. However, there are two words that I think trumps the club having to babysit the guy...personal responsibility. If you don't have the will power to not purchase all the services the ladies have to offer, then perhaps you shouldn't step your butt into the club in the first place.

It IS difficult to say no once your'e inside (the club, I mean), which is again why you should leave the plastic in the car. Kinda like walking into a casino, only go in with what you're willing to lose. Little bit of proactive acknowledgment that you're leaving your brain at the door goes a long way to avoiding shenanigans like the original topic.

Really? I never had a problem at all keeping my money in a strip club. I agree though, if you know you have that issue, then not taking your plastic in is a good idea...or maybe just not going in at all. I realize the woman are very cute and good at what they do, but having a modicum of self control and restraint just doesn't seem that diificult.

Then again, he was so drunk that he passed out...so self control might be the general problem for this guy! :D

I'm guessing the strip club will use the "It is NOT our fault you are STUPID" defense, which is even more effective than the dreaded Chewbacca defense.

You have a point. So maybe he should not of taken his happy backside in there. Unless the girls held a gun to his head it sounds like a case of buyer's regret...or wife's-gonna-beat-the-crap-outta-me syndrome :)

In this case, that's one and the same! :lfao:

Zoran,
Not that it has ever happened to me...
but I have heard "stories" about strips clubs up here in the Northeast (and elsewhere) that have adopted "standard procedures" as to when plastic charges (the bill) start to reach and go over five digits.

The clubs are not being Boy Scouts - they are protecting their interests and relationships as Merchants with the Credit Card companies.

To whit the on-duty Head Manager at the club starts contacting by phone the Credit Card Vendor and often has the cardholder get on the telephone line - and therefore be recorded on tape JUST to prevent any potential claim by this "attorney" and his ilk.

Have you seen this?

Sounds like a smart idea -- but I'd start things a whole lot lower than 5 figures. Probably when the bill starts to top much more than $1K or $2K. And I'd be running that card A LOT earlier. I don't know the practice at strip clubs, but when I worked in a restaurant, the bill was run at the end of the day -- but not really entered till the next day. If I were the club owner -- I wouldn't want a several thousand dollar uncollectable hit when the credit card company rejects that bill! I'd be doing everything I could to prevent that. Probably even pictures of the guy with his card to document that it WAS the card holder. (Yeah, I can see a morning after report of a stolen card...)
