An interesting read indeed that shows that all this drive towards a paperless world is not necessarily a good thing - something that I have known instinctively or a long time.

For myself, I'd put my dislike of working with purely digitally presented data down to my age but perhaps it is more fundamental even than that?

Looking about me now, I have an A1 plot of a single-line operations diagram on one desk, along with the relevant A3 pages of current I/O for the circuit. On another desk I have my log book, work instructions, contract information and the future I/O I am proposing for the circuit as well as a couple of smaller single-lines showing the ARS (auto-reactive switching) systems we think will be needed at the project end.

Try doing all that on-screen!

As it is, I also have digital copies of the I/O and mimics (dynamic pictures for the SCADA) on my laptop and an extended desk-top to a big monitor for the DMS that I am working with. The two mediums work well in tandem and I certainly wouldn't be as effective without the hard-copy.
