Police arrested a 40-year-old man at the Last Place on Earth, 120 E. Superior St., after he allegedly threatened both staff and police who responded to a call for help at 7:47 p.m. Saturday.
The suspect entered the Duluth head shop and demanded a small sum of cash, as well as synthetic marijuana, according to a police report.
Jim Carlson, the shops owner, referred to the man as a regular customer.
Weve had little issues with this guy before, but nothing so bad, he said.
Hes really into the martial arts, Carlson said. He acts like he thinks hes a ninja or something.
To his credit, he seems quite powerful...
Carlson said that on a previous visit to the shop, the same customer asked to look at one of the sharp throwing stars in a case.
He took it and sliced his hand open, Carlson recalled. He purposefully drew blood and said, It doesnt even faze me.
Another time, the man lifted up his shirt to show staff a series of self-inflicted wounds on his chest, Carlson said.
It took six police just to get him off his feet, said Carlson, who added he believes officers used appropriate force, given the circumstances.
Dang. Them ninja are strong.
Ok then.
