May I ask why they are not blocking the hits? Is it not allowed or did he just not see it coming...anytime I have watched tournament videos, nobody ever blocks?!

A lot of the time, emphasis is on dodging over blocking. In the case of the KO hit, it looked like he was caught flat footed after trying an attack. He knew he was wide open and panicked. (Looked away, desperately threw out his arms to block the anticipated kick...)
