As this year draws to a close some extraordinary events took place in the past 11 3/4 months. Taken by photographers from around the world we are given a reminder of those events. Some are probably still worth discussing which is why I chose to post them here.
I chose three from each set of 40 photos per part as the ones that struck me over all the rest.
These are powerful photographs and some are not easy to look at. There is a graphic content warning on some of them which are (mercifully) blacked out until you click on them... do so at your own discretion. They're not overly gory but they are indeed not for the timid.
This type of photography is important because it lets us see the world as it really is. It helps us make up our own minds about what's going on "over there" or just "down the street". They also remind us that the best and the worst of the human spirit can be seen. That adversity, hope, strife, joy, fear, bravery, sorrow and triumph happens everyday.
I do appreciate this particular magazine/media for unflinchingly posting these and in a large on screen format. Sometimes not all journalism is biased. Each photo is captioned. Some you may have already seen before. Many will capture your attention and imagination.

Part 3: http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2008/12/2008_the_year_in_photographs_p.html
One photo from each set are the ones that really caught my attention.
(mainly to whet your appetites for more :asian: )
