2 police officers killed in shootout in Miami

Miami (CNN) -- Two Florida police officers died following a shootout with a murder suspect Thursday in Miami, authorities said.

The suspect also died in the exchange of gunfire. A third police officer was being treated at Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital after suffering what Lt. Rosanna Cordero-Stutz of the Miami-Dade Police Department deemed a "minor injury."

"They pool their resources and go after the worst of the worst," said Alvarez, who earlier described the officers as "very well-armed and very well-trained ... police veterans who know their jobs."
