The chinese martial arts systems developed in Northern China. These systems include such well known arts as Long Fist, Northern Mantis, Eagle Claw and many more.

General discussion about Taijiquan (Tai Chi) and QiGong.
Taijiquan is a fighting art and system of exercise based on the philosophy of yin and yang--finding and using the balance between hardness and softness to overcome one's opponent. The graceful movements of the forms are believed to have stress reducing effects on the mind and health improvement effects on the body, and these benefits of Tai Chi practice are the primary interest of many practitioners.
QiGong is a system of excersize used to strengthen the internal organs and promote health.

A very popular Kung Fu style based on centerline attacks and deflecting techniques. Wing Chun is one of the most practiced forms of Kung Fu popularized by Bruce Lee. Most important is the concept of not using force against force, which allows a weak fighter to overcome stronger opponents.

For the discussion of the swords and sword arts of China.

Filipino styles normally classify attacks not by their weapon, or their delivery style, but by the direction of their energy. The Filipino arts place great emphasis on footwork, mobility, and body positioning. These arts include Escrima, Dumog, Balintawak, Arnis, Kali, Doce Pares, and many more. Culturally related topics also are welcome such as language, foods and customs.

The Great Grandmaster Anciong Bacon is widely acknowledged as the original master of Balintawak Arnis/Eskrima. In Balintawak Arnis, the stick is used as the primary training tool. The theory is that the stick is only an extension of the arm and that the human body can only move in so many normal ways. In Balintawak, the student is taught that there is a counter to every counter and that continuous research and discovery is the basis of knowledge.

Dedicated to Grandmaster Remy Presas. Modern Arnis utilizes sticks (canes), bladed weapons and empty hand techniques in its defensive tactics. We welcome all Modern Arnis practitioners from around the world to join us in exploring the art.

Aikido emphasizes evasion and circular/spiral redirection of an attacker's aggressive force into throws, pins, and immobilizations as a primary strategy rather than punches and kicks.

Jujutsu is an old, practical, fighting art. A parent to Judo, Aikido, and Hapkido.
Judo is a sport and a way to get in great shape, but is also very useful for self-defense.

Somewhat generic term used for Japanese and Okinawan fighting arts.
Karate is a term that either means "Chinese hand" or "Empty hand" depending on which Japanese or Chinese characters you use to write it.

Kyusho jitsu is a martial art which emphasizes the attack of pressure points on the body.

Surrounded by much controversy, today's "ninjutsu" is derived from the traditional fighting arts associated with the Iga/Koga region of Japan. We welcome members from all Nin-po schools.

Lit. Translation: "Nin" Perseverance/Endurance "jutsu" Techniques (of). Surrounded by much controversy, today's "ninjutsu" is derived from the traditional fighting arts associated with the Iga/Koga region of Japan. These arts include both "bujutsu" ryuha (martial technique systems) and "ninjutsu" ryuha, which involve a broad base of training designed to prepare the practitioner for all possible situations.

Over 70 different "ninjutsu ryu" have been catalogued/identified, however, the majority of them have died out. Most were developed around a series of specific skills and techniques and when the skills of a particular ryu were no longer in demand, the ryu would (usually) fade from existence. The three remaining ninjutsu ryu (Togakure ryu, Gyokushin ryu, and Kumogakure ryu) are encompassed in Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi's Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu system. These ryu, along with six other "bujutsu ryu" (Gyokko Ryu, Koto Ryu, Takagi Yoshin Ryu, Shinden Fudo Ryu, Gikan Ryu and Kukishinden Ryu), are taught as a collective body of knowledge (see Sub-Styles for other info).

This forum is for the discussion of the X-Kan families. They are: BujinKan, Genbukan and JinenKan. They are all decended from the Bujinkan organization of Hatsumi Sensei. Discussions not related to these should go in Ninjutsu General for now.

The fighting arts of Korea
Hwa Rang Do, Kuk Sool Won, Yudo, Kung Sul, Kumdo and more.

Tae Kwon Do is one of the fastest growing and most practiced martial arts in the world. Primarily a striking art with a heavy emphasis on kicking, Tae Kwon Do is now an Olympic event.

Hapkido combines joint locks, pressure points, throws, kicks, and strikes for practical self-defense. More soft than hard and more internal than external, but elements of each are included. Emphasizes circular motion, non-resistive movements, and control of the opponent.

Tang Soo Do is a Korean martial art which teaches empty hand and foot fighting, fighting forms, self-defense, and weapons. Tang Soo Do also teaches people to live a healthy and harmonious life. This ancient martial art traces its lineage back 2,000 years to the Korean peninsula.

The swords and sword arts of Korea. Arts include Choson Sebop, Hankumdo, Haidong Gumdo and Kumdo.

The martial arts of Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar (Burma), and the mainland territory of Malaysia. These arts include Cuong Nhu, Vovinam, Krabi Krabong, Bando, and Bersilat. Cultural discussions also welcome.

Muay Thai is commonly referred to as the "science of eight limbs," and is Thailand's national sport. Muay Thai is derived from the hand-to-hand aspect of the ancient Siamese art known as, "Krabi Krabong;" and was once performed for the entertainment of the King of Siam. Muay Thai is known for its distinct rituals, incredible conditioning, devastating round (Thai) kicks and the merciless use of knees and elbows.

Tangsoodo is a Korean martial art that incorporates techniques from China, Japan, and Okinawa. Directly translated, Tangsoodo means “Way of the China Hand.” We train to improve our character, express ourselves creatively, and to defend ourselves should combat arise. Our training consists of the following types of techniques - 50% striking, 20% grappling/throwing, 20% weapons defense, and 10% breathing/relaxation/energy work.
