Today, I woke up in a pleasant mood. Then my Crackberry exploded. That’s typical, but today one of my many spies sent me an article about cops arresting people for videotaping them while on duty and in public. This particular spy didn’t think the cops should arrest for that. He was exactly right.

I could write volumes on why this is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard, but I’ll just touch on the high points. We’re public servants entrusted with awesome power. We have the power to use force, even lethal force. We have the power to take away freedom. We’re allowed to kick down doors in the middle of the night and rush into people’s homes with machine guns. Maybe you non-thinkers don’t realize that all of these things, although necessary when used correctly, are also the things we’ve fought to defend against in every war we’ve ever fought. Don’t think so? Go study some history. You’ll find we were either protecting ourselves or someone else from the very things that police are allowed and expected to do when crooks cross the lines drawn by our society.

When we swear to uphold the Constitution, it’s the whole thing, not just the parts we like. Any cop who whines about the Bill of Rights standing in the way of making arrests should have their door kicked in by masked officers in the middle of the night. How would they like to get beaten until they confess to something? Or jailed without a fair trial? That’s right boys and girls, Ol’ Bullethead just hit a bunch of them—4th, 5th, 6th, 8th and the 14th amendments for good measure. My point: We must operate from within these laws. When we do, why wouldn’t we want it on video?

The family had just left Matt’s father-in-law’s home, where they had spent the evening with his wife’s family. Matt had stopped his car to talk with Wallace, who was on duty. Wallace and Tokuoka were engaged in a conversation, when John Marvin approached and opened fire on Wallace without warning. As Wallace went down, Tukuoka exited his car in an attempt to assist and told his wife to “get away!” Marvin then shot Tokuoka in front of his wife and children.

To add to the outrageousness of this act, Wallace’s mother, who was up from Florida visiting her son, also witnessed the shooting. Sgt. Wallace died while in surgery in Juneau, which is 40 miles to the west of Hoonah. Officer Tokuoka was pronounced dead early Sunday in the clinic in Hoonah.

Today was multi sparring class for the Black Belts. It was pretty fun and I even joined in with the youngsters (18+).

We did 2 vs. 2 as a warm up. Then it was 3 vs. 2 and then 3 vs. 1. We did only 60 sec intervals with 15 second rest. Does not seem like much but when you get to 3 on 1 you find out quickly how difficult it would be to fend off an attack with just 3 people.

You get clocked from behind, then when you turn to defend against that one you get clocked again from both behind and right in front of you. After about 20 seconds you are dead tired from just running to get space that you end up just standing in a corner and taking a beating. Even the young ones got tired and did not know what to do.

The only good point was that I did manage to hit one person in the head and he staggered but that did not last long as the other two were on me quick, then the staggered guy got his faculties back and then joined right back in.

For those that think that they can fend off a serious attack from multiple people you better have your Nike's on. Cause running is the best thing.

My daughter did better than me as she axe kicked one person right on the nose right off the bat and then only had a 2 on 1 situation from there out.

My son is just fast and had great footwork as he was able to move about and make the others run into and hit each other as he also popped them as he moved about. But in the end even he got tired and got tagged quite a bit.

Even if you attempt to wrestle you get pummeled as you can only wrestle one and even that gets you dog tired.

It has been a long time since I participated in many on 1 but it was still fun, even at my ripe age.

I came to the conclusion that a kane would be my best bet. Can I take it on an air craft? Figure it will make me look weak and give me a very good advantage. I am looking for the best regular kane that wont break. Not sure if I should go solid wood or some type of titanium. Who makes these things possibly with defense in mind? Something solid and legal that I can take anywhere. I am also looking for a crazy sword cane that wont snap. Finally, I am looking for a walking stick. What do you guys use for hiking? I notice alot of people use ski polls? Any ideas where to get kane training? Oh yea and figure I would get a good baseball bat for hotel room defense when im in a no gun state. Better than nothing by a long shot....

Kyosanim why aren't you kicking high? can't you kicking high enough? if not why you do TKD?

I tried to explain the little boy because my age, etc, etc, I can not kick high any longer but that my kicks are good still and blah-blah-blah but the boy didin't get it!! He just keep asking why I do TKD if I can not kick high!!!!

Don't know if some post I read in the karate subforum about low kicks in Okinawan karate influence me a little, what but was very disconforting. I think I am becoming nuts because I am out the dojang.

Hello all! I’ve been training on and off for about 10 years in a system that is a combination of various arts, and is trained as a RBSD. It’s a blended system that include Western Boxing, Muay Thai, Jeet Kune Do, Kali, Sambo, San Da. We’ve trained very realistically, against resistance, multiple attackers, weapons, indoor/outdoor training as well.

Lately, I’ve been wanting more than just the physical side of martial arts. The RBSD is brutal and effective, but just isn’t giving me the spiritual side. So, I’ve been thinking about going out and starting a traditional martial art. My question is, given my background in RBSD, how hard would it be to pick up a traditional martial art, given the different training approaches/philosophies? I just have a feeling that I’ll be lost between them.

Any thoughts?
